Research & Statistics
The Office for Recreation and Sport (ORS) undertakes research to assist both Government and industry to plan for the provision of policy, programs and services to the recreation and sport community.
As a member of the Committee of Australian Sport & Recreation Officials (CASRO) Research Group (CRG), ORS collaborates with other State/Territory recreation and sport agencies and the Australian Bureau of Statistics to undertake research into the social, health and economic benefits of recreation and sport.
More information on the role, objectives and priorities of the CRG, including access to a range of research reports can be found from their website link below.
ORS also contributed to the collection of annual participation statistics through a commitment to the Exercise, Recreation and Sport Survey (ERASS). In partnership with the Australian Sports Commission and other States and Territories, ERASS data was collected quarterly and published annually and provides information on the participation habits of Australians between 2001 and 2010.
ORS is also a partner in the National Sport Information Centre (NSIC). The NSIC makes available a comprehensive range of research resources to the sport industry, teachers, physical educators, academics, students, media, and sport enthusiasts alike. The NSIC can be accessed from the links below.
