Who should I contact to find out more about a sport or its services on offer to schools?

Where can I buy copies of the old Aussie
Sport resources like Sportsfun, Sportstart and some of the
new ones like Games Sense?
These resources are no longer produced or distributed by the Australian Sports Commission or the Office for Recreation and Sport. Some old copies may be available for loan from the ORS. Call +61 8 7424 7713 for more information.

Do you have any guidelines for schools employing private providers?
While the ORS doesn’t have any guidelines written specifically for SA schools, these NSW resources are excellent starting points.

Can my school apply for funding through any of the ORS Grant programs?
Yes. The Community Recreation and Sport Facilities (CRSF) program
and the Inclusive Recreation Inclusive Sport (IRIS) Grants programs are both open to schools under certain condtions. CRSF Grants allocate funds to eligible community-based
organisations, Local Government, schools and State sporting
and active recreation associations that develop facilities
for a wide range of recreation and sport activities.
The South Australian Government established the IRIS funding program to assist organisations increase and/or enhance opportunities for people with a disability to be involved in active recreation and sport. Details of the grants can be found in the Grants and Scholarships section of the ORS website.
What health and physical education training programs does the Office for Recreation and
Sport (ORS) run for teachers? What about sports coaching courses?
Most HPE/HPD specific training is conducted by ACHPER
(SA) and the DECS. The ORS focuses on training in sport
and recreation courses. Courses of interest to teachers include
the Essentials for Coaching Children course and ECC Presenter course along with others
conducted by the Coach
and Volunteer Education Centre.
Sports Medicine Australia (SA) also conduct
training course that are very useful for teachers in charge
of sports teams or those wanting to update their skills in
sports injuries and management. Details available at www.smasa.asn.au. Contact your State Sporting Organisation for details on specific sports coaching opportunities (ie Cricket level 1, Football Umpiring Introductory Course).
Do you have any posters, water bottles or
freebies that we can give to our students?
A large range of 'be active' merchandise suitable for schools (stickers, tattoos, pens etc) is available along with drink bottles, hats etc at very reasonable prices. be active canopies and signage can also be borrowed for gala events, sports days etc to promote the be active message. What is the Active After-school Communities (AASC)
program?
The Australian government’s ‘Active After-school
Communities' is an after-school-hours structured health and
physical activity program conducted in selected primary schools
and approved After School Hours Care Services.
‘AASC
co-ordinators work at national, state and regional levels
